Hopkins and Frost Knighted
LONDON — Actor Anthony Hopkins and television interviewer David Frost were awarded knighthoods in a New Year’s honors list recognizing the achievements of 940 Britons and members of the British Commonwealth.
Welsh-born Hopkins, 55, capped a long screen and stage career when he won a best-actor Oscar in 1992 for his chilling portrayal of Hannibal the Cannibal in “Silence of the Lambs.â€
Frost, 53, carved out a leading position as a political interviewer in both Britain and the United States after launching his career in the satirical 1960s television show “That Was the Week That Was.â€
Classical music composer Malcolm Arnold, 71, was also knighted, while romantic novelist Catherine Cookson, 86, and soprano Margaret Price, 51, were made dames.
