Debate over Elevated Rail
A cave-in by local politicos fosters white elephant blight on San Fernando Valley residents. Shunning the wishes of all segments of Valleyites, groups and individuals, the basically non-Valley-dwellers county transit committee voted for the so-called monorail route on the Ventura Freeway.
“To save money” we are told was the deciding issue. What they fail to realize is that this environmental catastrophe will be boycotted by the locals. It will cost taxpayers more in subsidizing the fares then they saved by not building a faster subway that was continuous from downtown and Hollywood without the necessity of wasting additional time changing trains. It is a sad day when one realizes that one county supervisor and his friends can so dominate the committees who are there to serve the public.
