World Hunger and Population
Thank you for your thoughtful, and intelligent article “Therapy Offers Swift Antidote to Starvation†(Dec. 12). And for including “the anatomy of starvation,†showing how starvation works, and how health can be restored.
As the article says, a simple mixture of water, sugar and salt (oral rehydration therapy) can save a child from dehydration and diarrhea, the most common cause of death. And then a powdered mix of grain, sugar and vegetable oil administered carefully can restore a child back to health within days. The article proves there is a solution to what is conceived to be a hopeless situation.
It is intolerable to think, when we have the technology, money and resources to end hunger, that we can allow anyone to go without enough to eat. We can end hunger and starvation. The only thing that is missing is the political will.
