3 Prisoners Escape From Musick Jail
IRVINE — Sheriff’s deputies Monday searched for three inmates who escaped from the James A. Musick Branch Jail.
The three, Angel Garsia, 18, a transient, Guillermo Aparicio Lara, 31, of Anaheim and Wilbert Adalberto Mendez, 21, of Santa Ana were discovered missing from the minimum-security jail when they did not appear at a Sunday evening head count, according to sheriff Lt. Dick Olson.
The three were in custody for nonviolent crimes and are not considered dangerous, Olson said. Garsia and Lara were scheduled to be released from custody in February and March, respectively. Mendez’s prison term was due to end June, 1993.
It is unclear how the men escaped or even if they planned the escape together. A search of the jail’s vicinity Sunday night turned up no clues and deputies are investigating the incident.
There have been 13 escapes from the Musick Branch Jail in 1992. Seven fugitives were recaptured. The jail holds about about 1,200 male and female inmates.
