The city of Moorpark has appointed four residents to an eight-member committee that will discuss whether the city’s growth control ordinance--known as Measure F--should be extended beyond its scheduled 1994 expiration.

Mayor Paul Lawrason made the appointments at Wednesday’s council meeting after taking recommendations from other council members on which of the 11 applicants should be accepted. The community members will join Councilmen Bernardo Perez and John Wozniak and Planning Commissioners Steve Brodsky and Christina May on the panel.

“Hopefully, we can come to a conclusion on what we’re going to do with Measure F,†Wozniak said after the meeting. “We have some time to formulate in our minds what we want to do. What we don’t want is to wait until it’s almost time and then have to scramble to get it done.â€

Appointed were Bob Heitzman, an assistant city manager in Simi Valley who has lived in Moorpark since 1979; Ellis Green, a claims administrator with a bachelor of science degree in organizational development; Joyce Thompson, a homemaker with a BA degree in urban planning, and Dorothy Ventimiglia, a homemaker with a BA in political science and public administration.

“Each of the persons is really quite unique in their backgrounds,†Lawrason said after the meeting. “What more could you ask for, interested, involved citizens who have some background that might be useful.†Enacted by referendum in 1986, Measure F capped the number of housing units that could be awarded by the city at 275 per year.

Lawrason said he hoped the committee might have at least an organizational meeting this month, although no date has been set.
