El Camino Soccer Team in Finals

The El Camino College men’s soccer team upset top-ranked Deanza College, 2-0, in the semifinals of the state championship tournament on Saturday in San Jose.
Forwards Ben Thacker and James Mitchell, both South Torrance High grads, scored the Warriors’ goals. Thacker scored at the 13th minute on an assist from David Kaemmerer and Mitchell scored on an assist from Mauricio Escobar at the 36th minute.
“We played one of our most competitive matches of the year,” said Jim Millinder, El Camino coach.
The Warriors (16-6-3) will play Chabot College (19-3) for the state title today at 2 p.m. Chabot upset East L.A. College 4-3 in Saturday’s other semifinal.
