OUTLOOK
The Warriors have high expectations this season, with Morales leading the way. Now in his seventh year with the team, Morales feels the Warriors could jump from their sixth-place finish in the Express League last season to second or third. “Pioneer (Baptist) is the team to beat,” Morales said. “But I think we’ve been looking pretty good in the practices.” Leading Bethel Baptist will be Fiola, who averaged 16 points last season; Moore, who averaged 10 points and seven rebounds, and Frias, who averaged nine points and 10 rebounds. “I’m looking for big numbers from (Frias) this year,” Morales said. Pace, a newcomer to organized basketball, will patrol the middle. “He’s a solid man inside,” Morales said. “He’s about 220 pounds with muscle.” Hernandez will share backcourt duties with Fiola. “Between Hernandez and Asir, they’ll switch back and forth at point guard and off guard,” said Morales, who plans to use a motion offense and pressure on defense. “We’ll work to get the open shot and set a lot of picks for the inside guys,” Morales said. “On defense, we want to pressure the ball as much as possible and force teams into turnovers.” Morales said Davidson will help coming off the bench.
