Contract Dispute: Writer David Mamet’s breach of contract suit against Imagine Films Entertainment will go to trial in July, a federal court judge in Los Angeles determined on Monday. Mamet contends he is still owed $1 million under terms of contracts he signed to write and direct a film titled “Charlie Chan/In Horse and Rider.” Mamet’s attorney Joel Smith said the writer was paid for the screenplay, but that he is entitled to additional money under terms of the pay or play provision in the director’s contract. Imagine has alleged in its counterclaim that Mamet acted in bad faith in various ways and that he did not write a script in a form that Imagine could produce.
