Adults Teach ‘Art’ of Lying
Re “Youths Get Bad Marks in Morality†(Nov. 12): No one who works for a living can be too shocked by Michael Josephson’s finding that one in five college students would lie or cheat to keep their job.
Heck, at this very minute, the Woodstock generation (their parents), is out cutting deals with the devil as if their very lives were at stake.
These people aren’t fudging to keep jobs to keep from starving, either; they’re doing it to hang on to their perks and corner offices.
It’s interesting to contrast this kind of eye-gouging with the actions of people in other stressful moments throughout history--say, people who risked death by torture while fighting for the Resistance during World War II--and to wonder how our culture would fare under assault from any force more corrosive than a recession.
