SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

More than 200 items ranging from the sublime to the off-beat will be auctioned Friday on behalf of the Ventura County Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Among the items up for bidding at five silent auctions and a live auction are one-week stays in Hawaii and Florida, a round of golf for four at a golf course in Camarillo, seats in the San Diego Padres owner’s box, tickets to the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and a tour of Ventura Farms, the 1,600-acre Arabian horse ranch in Hidden Valley used as a backdrop for the television show, Dynasty.

Another item on the auction block is a tour of the Ventura County Jail, complete with lunch.

“We are hoping to make $40,000 from this year’s auction,†said Marilyn Snyder, an event organizer. More than 8,000 young people will benefit from the proceeds.

The council is still accepting donations for the auctions, which for a time appeared threatened because of a Nov. 9 fire at Scout headquarters in Camarillo that destroyed many donated items.

But many donors came forward after the fire, Snyder said.

“The response from the public was wonderful, and we’ve replaced many of the items we lost,†she said.

The event will be held in the Agricultural Building at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura. A barbecue dinner will be served at 6 p.m., with five silent auctions from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. to precede the live auction that begins at 8 p.m.

Tickets to the dinner and auction cost $30 each and may be purchased by sending a check to the Ventura County Council Scouting Center, 509 E. Daily Drive, Camarillo, 93010. More information may be obtained by calling 482-8939.
