COLLEGE ROUNDUP : CCI Picks Up Consolation Title in Tournament

D’Andre Brown scored 25 points and Darren Lax added 22 to lead Christ College Irvine to an 83-71 victory over Fort Hays State in the consolation final at the Metro State men’s basketball tournament Saturday in Denver.
Brown and teammate Brian Hazelwood, who had 17 points and seven rebounds, were named to the all-tournament team.
In the Western New Mexico women’s basketball tournament:
Christ College Irvine 86, Sul Ross State 49--Stacy Giem scored 20 points, including four three-pointers, and Stacy Kirch had 10 assists to lead the Eagles (4-1). Gitte Mejer scored 17 points and Genevieve Graff added 14 for CCI. Sul Ross State is 1-5.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
East Texas State 97, Chapman 65--Melody Earle scored 13 points and Deanna Harry had 12 points and 10 rebounds for host Chapman (0-5). Andrea Hines had 17 points for East Texas State (1-3).
