What Did Vote for Toll Road Really Allow?
I applaud the Coastal Commission’s approval of the San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor. I, like the Coastal Commission, believe that the benefits of building this road system far outweigh any of the environmental concerns that have been discussed to date. This is one situation where it is clear that this road should be built. In addition to ensuring that our precious wetlands are not diminished by creating new wetland areas, the construction of this transportation corridor will provide many new jobs throughout Orange County. These jobs are sorely needed at this time due to the economic downturn in our county.
Once completed, the transportation corridor will also help reduce air pollution. It is a well-known fact that the worst air pollution comes from cars stuck in traffic, while cars moving at a reasonable speed pollute less. By reducing traffic congestion on Pacific Coast Highway and the San Diego Freeway, all of Orange County’s air quality will be improved.
