San Gabriel : Train Hits 83-Year-Old Man
An 83-year-old San Gabriel man was killed by a train while attempting to walk across the tracks near San Gabriel Mission, authorities reported Thursday.
Lloyd B. Lopez walked around a crossing arm near Mission Drive shortly after 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, as a Southern Pacific freight train approached at about 30 m.p.h., San Gabriel police Sgt. Ariel Duran said.
Lopez was almost across the tracks when he was struck. He was thrown to the ground and was killed instantly, Duran said.
