HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL / SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : DIVISION II
Dominguez 38, Saugus 33--Receiver Scott Cloman caught a 43-yard Hail Mary pass in the end zone as time expired to lift Dominguez (9-2) to a surprise victory at Canyon High.
Trailing, 32-25, Saugus (7-3-1) pulled within a point on Chris Johnson’s one-yard touchdown run with 40 seconds to play. Quarterback Bobby Cowan then hit Bobby Rodriguez for a two-point conversion to give Saugus the one-point lead.
But with only four seconds remaining, Dominguez quarterback Sean Williams lofted the long pass into the end zone and, despite having several defenders in the vicinity, Cloman came down with the ball.
Cowan completed 10 of 23 passes for 211 yards and had three touchdown passes, all to Rodriguez. Johnson led all rushers with 155 yards in 25 carries. He scored on runs of 16 and one yard.
