COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress Wins Opener of Its Tournament

Robbie Shelton scored 17 points and Rich Pilawski added 16 to lead Cypress to a 97-51 victory over Point Loma Nazarene JV in the first round of the Cypress men’s basketball tournament Thursday at Cypress College.
Cypress (3-1) will play Edwards Air Force Base, a 101-76 winner over El Camino, at 8 tonight in a semifinal game.
In the first round of the Fullerton tournament:
Saddleback 85, East Los Angeles 71--Kevin Fricka and Jeff Foster scored 17 points each to lead Saddleback.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Australian Institute of Sport 78, Orange Coast 67--Jeff Porter scored 18 points and Matt Manwarren had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the host Pirates.
In the first round of the Citrus women’s basketball tournament:
Cypress 74, Citrus 33--Yolanda Hearvey scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Cypress (2-1).
