Paul Gascoigne scored twice as England routed Turkey, 4-0, in World Cup qualifying at London. Italy played to a tie against Scotland at Glasgow.
Denmark, the European champion, got its first qualifying victory of the 1994 tournament, defeating Northern Ireland, 1-0, on a goal by Henrik Larsen at Belfast. Spain and Ireland played to a scoreless tie at Seville; Belgium increased its record to 5-0 with a 2-0 victory over Wales at Brussels, and Switzerland defeated Malta, 3-0, at Bern.
