David Oliver; Featured in TV’s ‘Year in the Life’
David Oliver, an actor best known for his continuing role as Sam Gardner in the Emmy-winning drama “A Year in the Life,” has died. He was 30.
Oliver died Thursday at his home in Los Angeles from complications of AIDS.
In his career spanning television, films and stage, Oliver appeared for two years in the NBC soap opera, “Another World.” He performed in the television movies “Miracle in the Wilderness,” “If It’s Tuesday, It Still Must be Belgium,” and a pilot film, “Protect and Surf.”
His feature film credits included the leading role in “Defense Play” in 1989.
On stage, Oliver appeared frequently at the San Diego Civic Light Opera, including roles in the shows “L’il Abner” and “The Unsinkable Molly Brown.” He also performed regularly at the Edinburgh Theater Festival. He was seen recently in “Elegies,” a play about AIDS, at the Canon Theater in Beverly Hills and Club 20-20 in Century City.
Oliver was a founding member of Young Artists United.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Terry Houlihan; his mother and stepfather, Pat and Gordon Ingle; his father, William Oliver, and seven siblings, including actress Kathleen Ingle.
Memorial services are scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills.
The family has asked that any memorial contributions be made to the City of Angels Hospice.
