Bardot in Hospital After Apparent Drug Overdose
ST. TROPEZ, France — Former movie star Brigitte Bardot was hospitalized Saturday night after apparently taking an overdose of tranquilizers, a medical source said.
Bardot, 58, was spending the day at her villa with her husband, Bertrand d’Ormale, and friends when she felt sick, according to friends who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Doctors decided to take her to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The medical source also declined to be identified, and doctors refused to elaborate on her condition.
D’Ormale told reporters recently that Bardot, France’s leading animal rights activist, was depressed about a starving flock of sheep found in an abandoned chateau and had been trying to get local authorities to take action.
Bardot lives a secluded life in St. Tropez. She retired from films in 1973.
