La Quinta Wins Game; Both Teams Lose in Brawl
GARDEN GROVE — a game that was interrupted by a brawl that led to the ejection of 11 players, La Quinta defeated Bolsa Grande, 28-0, in a Garden Grove League game Friday night at Bolsa Grande High School.
The fracas, which left Bolsa Grande with only 11 eligible players for the final three quarters, overshadowed the performance of La Quinta’s Prinya Satitpunwaycha, who scored all four touchdowns and caught 12 passes for 209 yards.
The brawl occurred with 2 minutes 49 seconds to play in thefirst quarter, after Bolsa Grande’s Love Jefferson returned a kickoff to the 35-yard line. After the play, three minor fights broke out, and players charged onto the field from both sidelines.
Order was quickly restored, and referee Bill Vinovich ejected six players from La Quinta and five from Bolsa Grande--forcing the Matadors to go with their 11 players for the rest of the game.
The victory ended a five-game losing streak for La Quinta (2-8, 2-5 in league). Bolsa Grande (0-10, 0-7) has not beaten the Aztecs since 1989.
Satitpunwaycha took shuttle passes from Jason Gondringer for touchdown runs of 62 and 44 yards in the second quarter. The senior running back also scored on a two-yard run and a 33-yard pass reception.
