MOORPARK : Motorist, 33, Killed in Freeway Collision

A Moorpark man died when the van he was driving collided with a car on the Simi Valley Freeway just west of Madera Road, officials said Friday.

Randall K. Fowler, 33, was driving west on the freeway in a van Thursday afternoon when he was struck head-on by a Corvette driven by Xe Van Vo, 44, of Moorpark, California Highway Patrol Officer Dave Webb said. Vo, traveling east, had lost control of his car and crossed the center divider, Webb said.

Both men were taken to Simi Valley Hospital, where Fowler died at 9:40 p.m. after 45 minutes in surgery, a hospital spokesperson said. Vo was in stable condition Friday with a concussion and facial lacerations.

A third driver, Kathleen Gail Purvis, 41, of Simi Valley, suffered minor injuries when her car was struck by debris, Webb said. Two other vehicles sustained minor damage.
