PREP CROSS-COUNTRY SOUTHERN SECTION PRELIMINARIES : Top-Ranked Edison Girls Take a Run at Second Straight State Title
WALNUT — The Edison girls’ cross-country team, top-ranked in Orange County, begins its quest for a second consecutive CIF State Division II championship at the Southern Section preliminaries Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College.
The meet begins at 8 a.m. Edison’s race is scheduled to start at 8:45.
Under first-year Coach Kristi Kaufmann, the Chargers have been top-ranked in the section and the state for most of the season. However, they squeaked past Ocean View to win last week’s Sunset League championship by only three points.
The top six teams in each division advance to the section finals next Saturday at Mt. SAC. And the top finishers there qualify for the State meet Nov. 28 at Fresno’s Woodward Park.
Katella, the county’s top-ranked boys’ team, will race at 11 a.m. in Division II.
