Victory Gives Foothill a Berth in Playoffs
TUSTIN — Foothill clinched its first playoff berth in four seasons with a 27-6 Century League victory over Santa Ana Valley Thursday night at Tustin High. Fullback Linus Park and quarterback Steve Wielandt each ran for two touchdowns to lead the Knights (6-4, 3-2), who won their third straight to lock up third place behind league-leading Orange and El Modena.
Foothill running back Ethan Taub rushed for a game-high 117 yards in 13 carries. Park’s first touchdown gave Foothill a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter. Israel Hernandez’s 36-yard field goal cut the Knights’ lead to 7-3 with 5 minutes 15 seconds remaining in the third quarter, but Park scored again on a two-yard run with 10:18 left in the game.
Hernandez booted a 22-yard field goal with 5:14 left to cut the gap to 13-6. But Sean Miller returned Francisco Islas’ on-side kick 43 yards to set up a four-yard run by Wielandt with 3:50 left. He added another touchdown with 1:56 remaining.
