IRVINE — Lee McElroy, athletic director at Cal State Sacramento, is one of the two new finalists for UC Irvine athletic director.
McElroy, 43, is in his fourth year as athletic director at Sacramento and is a former associate athletic director at Houston. He played football at UCLA from 1966-69 and is the brother of Raider tackle Reggie McElroy.
Irvine renewed its search last week after three previous finalists withdrew before Irvine had offered the job to anyone.
Four candidates were interviewed Monday and the field was narrowed to two.
The identity of the other finalist could not be confirmed, but it is either Dan Guerrero, the athletic director at Cal State Dominguez Hills, or Steve Holton, an associate athletic director at Cal State Long Beach.
