Exports Rise 6.3% in October: Exports climbed 6.3% in October from October, 1991, to $7.07 billion on continuing strong sales to mainland China. The Ministry of Finance said exports to Hong Kong, the transshipment point for most of Taiwan’s trade with the mainland, rose 25.9% from a year ago to $1.38 billion. The government bans direct trade with the mainland. Imports increased 10.0% from a year ago to $6.05 billion. The island’s trade surplus declined 11.5% on the year to $1.02 billion.
