Ex-Officer Guilty of Excessive Force
A former Gardena police lieutenant was convicted Friday of assaulting a handcuffed man with a stun gun after responding to a domestic dispute last year.
A Los Angeles Superior Court jury convicted Jeffery Finley of excessive force and assault with a Taser gun, both felonies, in an Oct. 4, 1991, attack on Richard Marone, said Deputy District Atty. Eloise Phillips.
Marone had been verbally abusive and struggled with the officers, though he never tried to strike the lawmen, Phillips said.
Finley, who is no longer a Gardena police officer, shot Marone three times with the stun gun after Marone had been subdued, Phillips said.
Finley is expected to appear for sentencing later this month.
