HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CITY SECTION ROUNDUP : Shinnick Caps Wild Rally, 43-42 Win
El Camino Real High’s Chris Shinnick scored on a 22-yard run and added a two-point conversion with 1 minute 40 seconds remaining to give the Conquistadores a dramatic 43-42 victory over host Chatsworth in a Northwest Valley Conference game Friday night.
Shinnick’s winning run was set up when Daniel Wroten recovered an onside kick at midfield after Michael Cooper’s 24-yard touchdown reception with 4:38 remaining cut Chatsworth’s lead to 42-35.
Trailing, 21-7, in the second quarter, Chatsworth (5-4, 3-3 in league play) scored four consecutive touchdowns to take a 34-21 lead late in the third period. Nestor Davila, the City Section’s top ground-gainer, had two of his three touchdowns--on runs of three and five yards--during that span.
After Davila’s five-yard run gave Chatsworth a 34-21 lead, Shinnick countered with a five-yard touchdown run of his own. Milton Pascual grabbed a pass from Eugene Chow for a two-point conversion to pull the Conquistadores to within five points.
Davila answered with another five-yard run and added the two-point conversion.
Cooper’s touchdown grab for El Camino Real (3-6, 3-3) set the stage for Wroten’s recovery of a squib kick.
