PRO FOOTBALL: DAILY REPORT : RAMS : They Still Try to Keep Heads Up
Coach Chuck Knox continued to try to downplay the significance of the Rams’ odds-defying string of defeats in the pregame coin toss, but even he found it hard to explain away losing the toss in eight consecutive regular-season games and four exhibitions this season.
“I don’t really worry about things I don’t have any control over,” Knox said Monday, a day after tackle Jackie Slater once again called “heads” and lost the flip to the Falcons.
The visiting team calls the flip, so Slater has called it wrong five times. The Rams’ opponents have called it correctly all three of the Rams’ home games.
Knox said that running back Robert Delpino, who has been on the injured-reserve list the last four weeks because of a knee injury, will try to do some running this week to see if he can be activated for Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Cardinals.
Also, receiver Flipper Anderson, who sat out Sunday’s game because of a sore ankle, has “a good chance” to be ready for the Cardinals, Knox said.
