PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP : El Toro Girls Get Past Capistrano Valley

El Toro, ranked No. 8 among girls’ volleyball teams in Orange County, handed No. 4 Capistrano Valley its first South Coast League loss of the season Thursday at El Toro.
Tishara Jespersen had 10 kills and Analisa Saylor had 44 assists for the Chargers (9-3, 6-2 in league) in the 15-11, 15-7, 7-15, 15-9 victory. Capistrano Valley is 21-3, 7-1.
In other South Coast League girls’ volleyball:
Dana Hills 3, Mater Dei 0--Outside hitter Jeanne Vetter had 18 kills for Dana Hills in a 15-13, 15-11, 15-12 upset of ninth-ranked Mater Dei. Ursula Luna, a junior, had 52 assists for Dana Hills. Before Thursday’s match, the Dolphins (8-6, 2-6) had lost six consecutive matches. Mater Dei is 5-3 in league.
Mission Viejo 3, San Clemente 0--Middle blocker Nina Foster had 16 kills for Mission Viejo (6-8, 2-6), which won, 15-12, 15-13, 15-4.
In the Century League:
El Modena 3, Orange 0--Lynette Anderson had 14 kills for visiting El Modena (14-2, 7-1), which won, 15-7, 15-8, 15-0.
Santa Ana Valley 3, Canyon 2--Norah Mariner had 17 kills and Gabby Rumps had 14 to lead Santa Ana Valley (4-8, 2-6), which won, 13-15, 15-9, 8-15, 15-8, 15-6.
In the Empire League:
Cypress 3, Katella 1--Heather Lowe had 15 kills and three aces for Cypress (12-2, 8-0), which won, 10-15, 15-5, 15-2, 15-11. Teammate Julie Adams added nine kills and Marisa Foasberg had 27 assists for Cypress.
Los Alamitos 3, Esperanza 0--Luann Pettix had 24 assists and Midori Bruel had 20 kills to lead Los Alamitos (10-2, 7-1) to a sweep, 15-4, 15-5, 15-8.
In the Freeway League:
Sunny Hills 3, Sonora 0--Rachel Hochgesang had seven kills to lead Sunny Hills (13-1, 8-0), which won, 15-2, 15-2, 15-4.
Troy 3, Fullerton 2--Jill Katsis had 24 kills and 11 blocks as Troy (11-3, 5-3) rallied to down Fullerton (7-9, 4-4), 15-11, 13-15, 14-16, 15-12, 15-10.
In the Garden Grove League:
La Quinta 3, Rancho Alamitos 0--Carin Whittington had 14 kills for host La Quinta (10-4, 10-2), which defeated Rancho Alamitos, 15-7, 15-6, 15-8.
Santiago 3, Pacifica 2--Setter America Robledo shook off a hip injury to lead Santiago (13-4, 8-4) to a 15-9, 12-15, 16-14, 7-15, 15-6 victory.
In the Olympic League:
Capistrano Valley Christian 3, Orange Lutheran 0--Kathleen Bunce had 11 kills for Capistrano Valley Christian (11-0), which defeated Orange Lutheran, 15-3, 15-2, 15-6.
In the Sea View League:
Corona del Mar 3, Irvine 1--Junior Jennifer Stroffe had 16 kills and 12 digs for the Sea Kings, who won, 15-13, 11-15, 15-9, 15-13. Lori Newcomer had 10 kills for Corona del Mar (14-0, 12-0), the No. 1-ranked team in the nation.
Newport Harbor 3, University 1--Misty May had 20 kills and Melissa Schutz had nine for host Newport Harbor (11-3, 10-2), which won, 20-18, 15-5, 4-15, 15-6.
Santa Margarita 3, Tustin 0--Alexandra Lohnef and Lesley Nolan each had 11 kills as Santa Margarita (6-8, 6-6) posted a sweep, 15-9, 15-2, 15-6.
In the Sunset League:
Edison 3, Westminster 0--Tina Daley had 13 kills for host Edison (13-1, 11-1), which won 15-6, 15-11, 15-9.
Marina 3, Fountain Valley 1--Jamie Wehran had 22 kills for host Marina (8-5, 8-4), which won 15-11, 15-10, 1-15, 15-3. Kristin Moro had 13 kills for Fountain Valley (8-6, 8-4).
