Laser Catheter Firm Reports Loss

IRVINE — Advanced Interventional Systems, a laser catheter company, lost $2 million, or 36 cents a share, for the third quarter, contrasted with a loss of $4.8 million, or 72 cents a share, for the corresponding 1991 quarter. Revenue rose to $3.5 million from $308,000. The company’s nine-month loss totaled $3.4 million, or 36 cents a share, on revenue of $10.6 million. For the comparable three quarters last year, the company lost $4.8 million, or 72 cents a share, on revenue of $2.9 million. Sales throughout 1991, the company said, were constrained by federal Food and Drug Administration restrictions, which at the time limited the company’s sale of its laser systems to clinical sites.
