COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : OCC Comes Back as Mossadeghi Scores Twice
Ali Mossadeghi scored two goals to help Orange Coast rally for a 5-2 victory over Riverside in an Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer match Friday in Costa Mesa.
Riverside took a 2-0 lead but Alex Vacquez scored on a penalty kick late in the first half for OCC (5-5-1, 2-3 in conference). Jon Muir tied the score and then Mossadeghi scored twice as OCC took the lead for good. Ted Watson added OCC’s final goal. Riverside is 6-2-3, 3-1-1.
In other Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:
Fullerton 2, Irvine Valley 2--Jeff Rynders scored the tying goal in the second half for host Irvine Valley (3-1-2 in conference). Alberto Verduzco and Aaron Campuzano scored for Fullerton (6-3-5, 2-1-2).
Rancho Santiago 4, Golden West 0--Ronnie Murretta scored two goals in the first half and Kevin Esparza scored twice in the second half for host Rancho Santiago (8-1-2, 3-0-2). Golden West is 1-3-1 in conference.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:
Cypress 7, Golden West 0--Laurie Wilson had two goals and one assist for visiting Cypress (9-1, 6-0). Cypress is ranked third in the state.
Orange Coast 6, Palomar 0--Linda Lewin scored two goals for host Orange Coast (5-5-2, 3-2-1). Dani Taylor added a goal and had two assists.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:
Golden West 3, Cypress 0--Debbie Howard and Karen Hernandez each had seven kills for host Golden West (9-0, 4-0), which won 15-2, 15-3, 15-0. Golden West is ranked No. 1 in the state.
In Orange Empire Conference water polo:
Grossmont 20, Saddleback 10--Tim Millington had three goals for Saddleback (9-13, 1-1).
San Diego Mesa 13, Rancho Santiago 12--Christian Stewart scored four goals for host Rancho Santiago (11-6, 1-1). Mesa is 1-1 in conference.
In South Coast Conference water polo:
Golden West 21, Mt. San Antonio 5--Jared Johnson and Curt Bowman each had three goals for Golden West (16-3, 4-0).
In nonconference wrestling:
Cypress 30, Mt. San Antonio 15--Brad Curry (142 pounds) pinned his opponent in 4 minutes 32 seconds and teammate Tony Okada (150 pounds) pinned his opponent in 1:30. Cypress is 6-1.
