MISSION VIEJO : Funding Restored to School Programs
Saddleback Valley Unified School District board members on Tuesday were able to restore about $80,000 worth of funds to several academic programs, including the district’s top-rated academic decathlon teams.
In June, the board adopted a $2.3-million reduction plan to balance its $109-million budget. But with the adoption of the state budget in August, local school officials were given more flexibility in using funds from special grant programs, which allowed the “modest†restorations, officials said.
In addition to the academic decathlon teams, the district partially restored funding to the elementary chorus program, the elementary student council and the mock trial teams. The extra money will also allow the district to fully fund the mentor teacher program.
