La Canada Flintridge : Vehicular Manslaughter Trial
A Palmdale man who allegedly caused a fatal crash on Foothill Boulevard on May 20 while fleeing from another accident has been ordered to stand trial for felony vehicular manslaughter.
During an Oct. 6 preliminary hearing in Glendale Municipal Court, prosecutors said Allan Buontempo, 38, fled east on Foothill Boulevard after hitting a car at Alta Canyada Avenue. Deputy District Atty. Lawrence McGrail said Buontempo ran a red light at Verdugo Avenue and then struck a van as it crossed Foothill Boulevard at Cornishon Avenue.
The driver of the van, Mark Hansen, 44, of Los Angeles was ejected and died of his injuries.
Buontempo was ordered to appear for arraignment Wednesday in Pasadena Superior Court. Buontempo was released on $5,000 bail. If convicted, he faces a maximum of six years in prison, McGrail said.
Meanwhile, at its Oct. 6 meeting, the City Council denied a $2-million wrongful death claim filed by Hansen’s relatives.
