Southwest Holds Off Compton
Freshman running back Katia Ransom scored three touchdowns to lead the Southwest College football team past Compton, 28-6, in a Western State Conference game on Saturday at Southwest.
Southwest (1-2-1) took a 14-0 lead in the second quarter on a two-yard run by Takim Brown. The 250-pound fullback gained 90 yards in 18 carries.
But Compton (0-4) closed to within 14-6 at halftime on two field goals by Carlos Leon.
In the third quarter, Compton defensive back Earnest Rogers intercepted a pass by Bobby Savannah and returned the ball 74 yards.
With the ball on the Cougar six-yard line, Southwest’s Darl Cash was called for pass interference. But Compton failed to score when a field-goal attempt was blocked by Cash.
“Before (the field-goal attempt), I just felt that I had to go hard and get it,†Cash said.
Ransom scored on pass plays of 54 and 44 yards. He also scored on a three-yard run.
El Camino 46, Riverside 43--Ivan Wilson caught a three-yard touchdown pass from Jerry Singleton with 11 seconds remaining to lift the Warriors to a Mission Conference victory.
Latario Rachal scored three touchdowns to help El Camino improve to 3-1 and 2-1 in league play. Riverside is 0-3-1 and 0-2-1.
