Chula Vista’s 32-game Metro Conference unbeaten streak appeared in doubt against ninth-ranked Montgomery, but the Spartans scored twice in the final 3 minutes 3 seconds and upset visiting Montgomery, 17-6, Friday night.

With the victory, Chula Vista improved to 31-0-2 in its last 33 league games, including two victories this season.

Dave Hatts, a Chula Vista assistant coach, said he didn’t consider the victory an upset.

“We certainly took notice when (Montgomery) beat Castle Park last week,†Hatts said. “The general public may have felt we were the underdog, but when you’ve won four league titles in a row, we didn’t consider ourselves the underdog.â€
