SANTA CLARITA : 25 Workers Laid Off at Newhall Land
Newhall Land & Farming Co., the largest holder of undeveloped land in the Santa Clarita Valley, has laid off 25 of its 200 employees, officials of the publicly held Santa Clarita-based developer announced.
“It’s strictly a result of the lingering recession,†company spokeswoman Marlee Lauffer said.
Newhall Land, which developed the master-planned community of Valencia
in the 1960s and co-developed the Valencia Town Center regional shopping mall that opened Sept. 24, terminated the employees Monday from what Lauffer described as “a variety of full-time positions.†She declined to specify how many had filled management or staff positions.
Newhall Land will try to help the former employees find work elsewhere, Lauffer said.
