Mirage to Buy Dunes Hotel: Mirage Resorts said it was buying the Dunes Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip from Japanese businessman Masao Nangaku, who purchased the casino property in bankruptcy court in August, 1987, for $157 million. Wynn refused to disclose the price Mirage paid for the property, but other gaming sources have indicated that it may have been less than half the $157 million. Mirage Chairman Steve Wynn said Mirage envisioned building five or six themed venues of 500 to 600 rooms each at the Dunes site. One might carry a Japanese theme, another European, and so on, Wynn said.
