Carless in L.A.
Your article on those of us who are carless was right on target. We owe survival tactics not only to the kindness of our families and friends, but also, believe it or not, often to the kindness of strangers who generously rush to our rescue as occasions warrant. Perhaps they sense that there are Los Angelenos like myself--transplanted New Yorkers--who just simply can’t drive. And taxis are, of course, a blessing when you can get them. To a New Yorker, hailing a cab is routine whereas out here, it seems to be a status symbol, which never ceases to amuse me!
