Orange Lutheran 34, Cathedral 20--Dale Huss ran for one touchdown and threw for one to lead the Lancers in Los Angeles.
“Huss had a good year for us last year,” Orange Lutheran Coach Tim Taube said. “He also played real well for us last week, so I’m proud of the way he played.”
Orange Lutheran improved to 3-1; the Phantoms are 2-2.
The Lancers’ first touchdown came on a fake punt. On fourth down, Huss, the up-man, took the snap and threw a lob pass to Ken Brown for a 26-yard touchdown to put the Lancers ahead, 7-0.
Taube was a bit concerned after the Lancers fell behind, 20-14, in the third quarter, after a 17-yard touchdown run by Edie Cervantes.
The Lancers came back in the fourth quarter to score three consecutive touchdowns.
The first came with six minutes left when Huss, a senior, scored from the one to give the Lancers a 21-20 lead.
The second touchdown came with 1 minute 27 seconds left, when fullback Dan Peters went up the middle and rumbled 43 yards to make the score 28-20.
Then with 34 seconds remaining, Orange Lutheran’s Brent Vieselmeyer blindsided Cathedral quarterback Danny Hernandez, forcing a fumble, which was recovered by Todd Williamson, who went 45 yards for the final touchdown.
