Workers, Police Clash in Japan After Aid Halt

TOKYO — Hundreds of angry workers clashed Friday with police in Osaka after the local government suspended an emergency aid program.

Throwing stones and bottles, an estimated 1,000 workers battled 2,500 helmeted police brandishing shields and batons in Japan’s second-biggest city, a police spokesman said. No one was injured, but at least three rioters were arrested, the spokesman said.
