Kirkpatrick Sale, author of a revisionist book on Christopher Columbus, will lecture at Cal Lutheran University today at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Sale’s book, “The Conquest of Paradise: Christopher Columbus and the Columbian Legacy,” views the explorer’s journey as the beginning of the rise of a modern Europe.
Sale, an environmentalist, also asserts that Columbus’ voyage to the New World began a period of human domination over nature.
He attributes today’s environmental problems to that attitude.
Other books by Sale include “Guardians of the Sacred Vessel: American Environmentalism 1962-1992,” “Dwellers in the Land” and “Human Scale.”
Admission is free for his morning talk and $5 for non-students at his evening lecture.
The lectures will be held in the Preus-Brandt Forum.
