California IN BRIEF : HALF MOON BAY : Fishing Boat Snags an Old Torpedo

A fishing boat caught a World War II torpedo in its nets in the Pacific Ocean about six miles north of this San Mateo County coastal town, the Coast Guard said. The captain of the fishing boat Sierra Madre described the device as about 64 inches long and 20 inches wide with four fins, Coast Guard spokesman Bryan Bender said. Navy bomb disposal experts confirmed that the device was a World War II torpedo.
