Ex-Soldier Gets Prison Term for Selling Secrets

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A former Army sergeant was sentenced to 36 years in prison for selling military secrets to Hungary and Czechoslovakia.
During Friday’s sentencing, a U.S. district court judge said Roderick James Ramsay’s cooperation with the government convinced him to be more lenient.
Ramsay, 30, had faced life in prison after pleading guilty to one count of espionage. He admitted selling information between 1983 and 1986 for $20,000.
Among the items Ramsay admitted selling were plans for the defense of Central Europe and documents outlining the location and use of NATO’s tactical nuclear weapons, prosecutors said.
