Grandstand Cost Grandstand folly?
In response to Michael J. Foley’s observation that the $80 million spent on the new grandstand at the Del Mar Race Track could have funded San Diego’s youth shelters for 40 years (Letters, Aug. 9), I have but one question: Where does he think the money went?
Does he not realize that those dollars are paying the salaries of hundreds of craftspeople, material suppliers, engineers and architects?
Does it not occur to him that those dollars are passing through those paychecks to businesses and charities throughout his community?
Funding for social services may be hard to come by in 1992, but I disagree that dollars for paychecks is an act of folly.
