COSTA MESA : New President Is Elected by Fair Board
Political consultant Don Willet was recently elected president of the board of directors for the Orange County Fair and Exposition Center.
Appointed to the board in 1990 by former Gov. George Deukmejian, the Newport Beach resident runs a public affairs and political consulting company.
Since 1972, Willet has worked with governmental, political and private industry leaders throughout the state. He has served as the executive director for the California Republican Party and has worked in various capacities on several political campaigns, including the 1984 and 1988 presidential and gubernatorial races.
In other action, Yorba Linda resident Randy Smith was named vice president of the nine-member board. He was also appointed in 1990.
Smith, president of Smith Public Affairs in Irvine, has also spent several years working for government agencies. He has served as an administrative assistant for Congress and the California Senate. He is an active member of the Lincoln Club of Orange County.
All board members are appointed by the governor for a term of four years. Board members are allowed to serve more than one term in the position.
Willet’s and Smith’s positions as president and vice president expire in one year.
