Diversified Builder: When the William Lyon Co. name is mentioned, most people think of large tracts of houses. After all, that’s what the Newport Beach-based company builds around here.
But that isn’t all it builds.
The National Manufactured Housing Institute-- manufactured housing is a fancy term for mobile homes--has nominated one of the company’s subsidiaries as 1991 developer of the year.
Lyon Communities Inc. garnered the nomination for two mobile-home parks it built in Nevada during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The parks, one in Reno and one in Las Vegas, are home to 900 senior citizens and have won numerous state and national design and planning awards.
Lyon sold both developments earlier this year.
