Responding to residents’ concerns, Caltrans has extended the deadline from Aug. 28 to Sept. 14 for public comment on two proposed routes for a controversial eight-lane extension of California 126 through Santa Clarita, officials said Wednesday.
Two more public forums concerning the proposed highway are scheduled this month, including a meeting of the Route 126 Advisory Committee at 2 p.m. today at Newhall Land & Farming Co., 23823 Valencia Blvd. A meeting with Caltrans officials, who will hear comments on an environmental impact report dealing with the proposed changes, is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 27 in the Santa Clarita City Council chambers, 23920 Valencia Blvd.
In previous forums, residents, developers and environmentalists have addressed whether the state should extend the highway on a northerly or southerly route between the Golden State and Antelope Valley freeways.
