Lynwood : Neighborhood Restaurant Gets Beer, Wine Permit

After more than six months of debate, the City Council has approved a beer and wine permit for a neighborhood restaurant.
In a 3-1 vote with Councilman Armando Rea dissenting, the council approved the permit Tuesday for El Camaron restaurant on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Councilman Louis Byrd was absent.
The Planning Commission had turned down the permit and community members complained that the city already has too many liquor licenses.
As part of the conditions of approval, the building owner must make improvements to the exterior and modifications to the interior.
Council members reasoned that allowing the beer and wine permit might attract more family restaurants and businesses to the city. Several residents told the council that they feared the sale of alcohol would result in an increase in gang and crime activity.
