TUSTIN : 9 Candidates Vie for School Board
Eight newcomers and one incumbent will run for three open seats on the Tustin Unified School District board.
One of the unchallenged seats is being vacated by 25-year board member Barbara Benson, who said the board is too willing to make decisions without discussion and background information.
“Since we have changed superintendents there is a feeling in the community that everything that is brought forward should be passed. I just don’t operate like that,†she said. “I was beginning to feel like an obstructionist,†Benson added.
Board President Joyce Hanson also is also not seeking reelection. She has served two consecutive four-year terms with the district.
The only incumbent in the Nov. 3 race is Merlin (Bud) Henry, who has served one term.
The other candidates are Gary L. Corlett, engineer; Douglass rS. Davert, businessman; Robert L. Douglas, reserve deputy sheriff; Todd M. Ferguson, educator; Mark Sheridan, accounts manager; Irene Dardashti, a school district administrator; Sally Burrage and Carol McCauley, both community volunteers.
