Garden Grove Names New Chief of Police

GARDEN GROVE — Stanley L. Knee, who left the Garden Grove Police Department in 1988 to become chief of police in National City, will return to be Garden Grove’s police chief.
Knee, 44, will assume the job on Sept. 8. He replaces David Abrecht, who became interim chief when John Robertson left earlier this summer.
Knee, who moved to Garden Grove with his family as a child, joined the department in 1969.
City Manager George Tindall said: “We were looking for someone who has had experience as a chief and who was familiar with Garden Grove’s style of policing.”
Tindall said also that National City, in San Diego County near the Mexican border, is similar to Garden Grove because it is ethnically diverse, has a tight budget and faces manpower cuts.
