Some beat-the - street advice from the book “Crossing the Border Fast & Easy,” by Paula McDonald , which offers really great tips on doing just that: Call us your best buddies for teaching you this, because you’ll never again be pestered incessantly by swarms of little urchins with Chiclets, by people with wooden cases of silver jewelry, by guys at every traffic light with bunches of roses. Mexicans don’t get their windshields washed unless they want to. Nor do they say “no” 50 times. In fact, they don’t say anything at all. They hold up one finger and waggle it sideways, slowly. Everybody goes away. Remarkable. Amazing. And so easy even a gringo can do it.
